What Is Lecanomancy?

by Craig Shrives
Lecanomancy is divination by studying the sounds, ripples or shapes caused by dropping objects (usually stones (especially gems) or oil) into a basin of water. The word derives from the Greek for dish. When oil is used, the oil is poured into the water and the shapes it forms are interpreted.

Lecanomancers will often stare at the water to induce a self-hypnotic state, under which they offer their divination. Mumbo-jumbo-meter: 10/10
